Reflection. A key component of all professional development. Reflecting on who we are, where we have been, and where we are going as teachers. The value of reflection, taking a step back and really thinking about what makes us effective teachers, is paramount to allow us to strive to be better for our students. Isn’t that what we all want? To be the most effective teachers to help our students? Below I have made a list of the qualities that I believe make for an effective teacher. What would your list look like? How do you feel you are stacking up to your list? Are there areas where you can improve? I am a student teacher, and therefore, personally I believe I am still a work in progress compared to my list, but I also believe I am persistent enough to keep learning and growing, and maybe one day I will get pretty close to epitomising my list, the qualities of an effective teacher.
